ISAIAH 53-THIS IS JESUS CHRIST, YAHSUA

 1 Who has believed our message
       and to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed?

 2 He grew up before him like a tender shoot,
       and like a root out of dry ground.
       He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him,
       nothing in his appearance that we should desire him.

 3 He was despised and rejected by men,
       a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering.
       Like one from whom men hide their faces
       he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

 4 Surely he took up our infirmities
       and carried our sorrows,
       yet we considered him stricken by God,

       so he did not open his mouth.

 8 By oppression [a] and judgment he was taken away.
       And who can speak of his descendants?
       For he was cut off from the land of the living;
       for the transgression of my people he was stricken. [b]

 9 He was assigned a grave with the wicked,
       and with the rich in his death,
       though he had done no violence,
       nor was any deceit in his mouth.

 10 Yet it was the LORD's will to crush him and cause him to suffer,
       and though the LORD makes [c] his life a guilt offering,
       he will see his offspring and prolong his days,
       and the will of the LORD will prosper in his hand.

 11 After the suffering of his soul,
       he will see the light of life [d] and be satisfied [e] ;
       by his knowledge [f] my righteous servant will justify many,
       and he will bear their iniquities.

 12 Therefore I will give him a portion among the great, [g]
       and he will divide the spoils with the strong, [h]
       because he poured out his life unto death,
       and was numbered with the transgressors.
       For he bore the sin of many,
       and made intercession for the transgressors.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told the Saban Forum on Sunday: "The way to achieve peace is through negotiations, cooperation and the agreement of both sides....There is no substitute for negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian Authority, and any unilateral attempt outside that framework will unravel the existing agreements between us, and could entail unilateral steps by Israel." "The Goldstone report is a clear threat to peace in our region. Achieving a final peace settlement with the Palestinians will require territorial compromise. But how can Israel vacate additional territories if we cannot defend ourselves against attacks from that territory? Be assured that this UN report is not Israel's problem alone. It threatens to handcuff all states fighting terrorism. Iran has disclosed to officials of the International Atomic Energy Agency that it is building a second uranium enrichment plant:

Iran notified the UN’s International Atomic Energy Agency in a letter on Sept. 21 “that a new pilot fuel-enrichment plant is under construction,” Marc Vidricaire, an IAEA spokesman, said today in an e-mailed statement. The IAEA demanded access to the site “as soon as possible,” the spokesman said.

President Barack Obama, U.K. Prime Minister Gordon Brown and French President Nicolas Sarkozy will make a statement today in response to the revelation of the plant, France’s ministry said. The leaders are attending the opening of the G-20 economic summit in Pittsburgh.

Britain and France urged the UN to consider stepping up pressure on Iran as Obama presided over a unanimous Security Council vote yesterday for a measure resolving to rid the world of nuclear arms.

Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez is shooting off his mouth again:

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez attacked Israel Thursday during his visit to Syria, calling it an imperialist nation that annihilates other people.

Chavez comments came during a news conference with his Syrian counterpart Bashar Assad after a one-hour meeting at the hilltop presidential palace.

"Israel has become a country that annihilates people and is hostile to peace," he said, according to the Arabic translation of his remarks to reporters.

Tutu: Israeli society needs to "evolve"

Archbishop Desmond Tutu, touring the Middle East with the group that has dubbed itself "The Elders" (which also includes anti-Israel stalwarts such as Jimmy Carter and Mary Robinson) presumes to tell Israel what is to be learned from the Holocaust:

"The lesson that Israel must learn from the Holocaust is that it can never get security through fences, walls and guns," Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu of South Africa told Haaretz Thursday.

Commenting on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's statement in Germany Thursday that the lesson of the Holocaust is that Israel should always defend itself, Tutu noted that "in South Africa, they tried to get security from the barrel of a gun. They never got it. They got security when the human rights of all were recognized and respected."

So, recognizing and respecting the human rights of Israel's terrorist enemies like Hamas and Hezbollah will bring security to the Jewish state. That's a nice fantasy world you've built for yourself, Mr. Tutu.

Obama meets with Netanyahu

U.S. President Obama and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met today in Washington D.C. to discuss prospects for Middle East peace.  Obama was pushing for a two-state solution, but Netanyahu was not ready to commit to anything until the Palestinians recognize Israel's right to exist:

Netanyahu said he was ready to resume peace talks with the Palestinians immediately but said any agreement depended on their acceptance of Israel's right to exist. It was not immediately clear in the way he phrased the response whether Netanyahu was demanding that as a precondition for talks.

"There's never been a time when Arabs and Israelis see a common threat the way we see it today," Netanyahu said, speaking of a sense of urgency felt throughout the Arab world about Iran's nuclear program.

Egypt finds weapons in Sinai

More evidence of Egypt's poor border control -- it seems Hamas has been gathering a rather large arsenal to smuggle into Gaza:

Egyptian security forces uncovered an immense munitions cache near the Israeli border, the London published newspaper Al-Quds Al-Arabi reported on Friday.

An Egyptian official assessed that the 266 rockets, 51 mortar shells, 21 grenades and 43 mines uncovered in northern Sinai were meant to be smuggled to Hamas forces in the Gaza Strip.

Israel is responding by building a barrier at the Israel-Egypt border:

...there has been concern that other terrorists, including members of Hizbullah cells believed to be in the Sinai, would also try to use this section of the frontier to cross into Israel.

"The border with Gaza is basically hermetically sealed," a defense official explained Tuesday. "That is why we are concerned that the terrorists will try to infiltrate via the Egyptian border."

The Arab world likes to criticize "fortress" Israel. But Israel is surrounded by enemies and can't afford to let her guard down. This is one of those cases where good fences make good neighbors ... or at least protect you from the bad ones.
